Why am I ineligible for online renewal?
In certain cases, a vehicle may not be eligible for online renewal on iKan. If you receive a message that your vehicle is "ineligible for renewal," you will need to complete your registration renewal either by mail, or in person.
Common Ineligibility Reasons
No Insurance
- In some cases, the state may not have current proof of insurance for your vehicle registration. This can happen due to changes in your insurance company, policy changes, or insurance lapses.
Wasn't Issued a PIN
- Vehicles that are not issued a PIN number by the Kansas Department of Revenue are ineligible to be renewed online. This can occur if you had registered your vehicle in the state of Kansas for the first time last year and for recently purchased vehicles.
Trailers/RVs
- The Kansas Department of Revenue doesn't currently allow trailer or RV registrations to be renewed online. These vehicle types will need to be renewed by mail or in person.
To renew by mail
To renew by mail, follow the instructions on your renewal notice, and be sure to also include a copy of your insurance information. You can print a new copy of your renewal notice on this website.
To renew in person
To renew in person at your local county treasurer's office, you can get started by visiting their website or contacting them directly. You find their information in the county directory.
